President Barack Obama will meet Pope Francis for the first time at the Vatican on March 27, the White House said Tuesday. Vatican Spokesman Father Federico Lombardi confirmed that the pope will have an audience with Obama that day.

Controversy continued on Tuesday over a proposed new election law presented by Democratic Party (PD) chief Matteo Renzi, the result of a deal struck last weekend with ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi.
Pope Francis challenged business leaders assembled in Davos on Tuesday to put their wealth at the service of humanity instead of leaving most of the world's population in poverty and insecurity.

Claudio Abbado, a conductor whose refined interpretations of a large symphonic and operatic repertory won him the directorships of several of the world’s most revered musical institutions — including La Scala, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna State Opera and the Berlin Philharmonic — died on Monday at his home in Bologna, Italy. The acclaimed drama became Italy's first Golden Globes winner since "Nuovo Cinema Paradiso," awarded 25 years ago.

Italian director Paolo Sorrentino picked up the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film for ‘La Grande Belleza’. After thanking the Hollywood Foreign Press and his friends and family, the director concluded his acceptance speech by saying: “Thank you to Italy. That’s a crazy country, but beautiful. Thank you very much.”

He was the pop singer from Puglia who gave the world one of its catchiest songs, an ode to love and romance that is still played all over the world more than half a century after it was first performed.
